There is a reason I always pull test prints before sending anything out to a vendor for large format printing. What might feel like something that is working on sceen, might not when you see it in real life. Case in point, these two test prints. The one on the left was the original and it felt OK on screen but not quite. I couldn’t put my finger on it.

Something about the compositional balance and the juxtaposition of certain images. A missing piece that didn’t tie things together,. Something felt out of place. The first one works, but I knew it could be stronger.

So after printing it out, tacking it up and spending a week or two just looking at it, things came together in my minds eye. The result was repositioning a couple of elements, removing a couple, adding some new layers, and reworking the right half of the top third.

This will go out on Monday to get printed 36×24 inches on Hahnemühle FineArt Photo Rag 300 GSM paper.
